About the Artist

Inspired by the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Thoreau, and William Blake, among others, Bennett began imagining a life spent in spiritual and creative pursuit.

After several years working as a High School English Teacher, Bennett began painting as a way to find peace and express the inspiration he felt in Nature. 

​

One fortunate happenstance in Bennett's journey occurred during a moment of despair. Painting a beautiful sunset of a New Orleans marina, he couldn't help but feel the paint on the canvas was flat and uninteresting compared to the inspiration of the lived moment. 

 

Seeing many interesting marks and spectrums of color left by the palette knife on his mixing table. Bennett decided the abstract and expressive marks left by mixing knife on the palette itself were much more beautiful than the actual painting he had been working on for six hours. ​

A quick search of palette knife painters led him to discover the beautiful works of contemporary impressionist Robert Moore. Bennett sought to meet Moore in person and found that Moore's teaching provided principles that bound and guide his practice to this day.

He continues to struggle and develop the expression of his Inspiration, and is immensely grateful for the many people who have supported his journey and acknowledged the pursuit of Art as a valuable use of Time.
